My former Toronto Star colleague Jayme Poisson is now a big deal at CBC. She interviewed me for her podcast there, “Front Burner,” on state of organized crime in Canada and recent murder of Paolo Cupido in Toronto.  

Paolo Caputo, 64, may have been targeted for murder because associates owed millions to Mexican cartel after 2012 murder of Johnny Raposo on College Street patio.  

Paolo Caputo was trying to sell his West Toronto wine bar/ restaurant when he was shot to death on Friday. Police sources link him to Vito Rizzuto, former Montreal mob boss who died of reportedly natural causes in 2013.  

Paolo Caputo was shot dead on Friday in front of his West Toronto wine bar/ restaurant. He was associate of former Montreal mob boss Vito Rizzuto and his brother is in prison for role in 2012 murder in outdoor Toronto cafe connected to Wolf Pack Alliance.

Canada’s medical marijuana laws are full of loopholes that criminals are using to finance other operations. Rather than fight, criminals are working together. Part of that work is running marijuana farms, with an eye to American exports. York Regional Police announced two big busts today to highlight this.

Organized crime murders accounts for 27 per cent of homicides in Canada in 2018, with the Greater Toronto Area again recording the highest number. The community of Abbottsford-Mission, B.C. registered the highest per capita rate for organized crime hits.
